Born and raised in Swaziland, Jiggs is the creative mastermind behind the multi-dimensional world of House on Fire. Whilst pursuing his own channels as an artist (theatre, poetry, fine art), he has also managed to create an ever-growing platform for artistic expression right in the heart of Swaziland.
Working and studying in South Africa, Jiggs was exposed to some of the best artists in Southern Afirca, which fueled his passion and planted the seed that sprouted into the provocative alternative multi-media venue and festival. Seeing the need for both live entertainment as well as artisan development in his own country, Jiggs brought his inspirations home to Swaziland and set about building a performance and gallery space, which has been lauded as “One of the most eclectic venues in the world.” House on Fire has grown continuously and is now well known regionally -- with a burgeoning international profile -- for exceptional performances and events of the highest calibre.
Jiggs also conceived and oversees an ongoing artist development program, employing the talents of both in-house and freelance fine artists to keep the House on Fire Studio stocked with exciting and original art and design. In the past five years The House on Fire creative team has participated in numerous exhibitions around the world and continue to develop their export market. Galleries and shops in the US and Europe showcase and sell the unique pieces, many of which are also proudly displayed in private collections.
Jigg’s most recent brainchild, The Annual Bushfire International Festival of the Arts is now in its 6th year and quickly emerging as one of the most important and interesting festivals in the world. Featuring three days of top international and regional artists in theatre, music and interactive performance, the concept is a large scale manifestation of Jiggs’ vision and philosophy: to use the arts as a platform to encourage cultural and intellectual exchange and inspire dialog that initiates constructive changes in our lives and our society. And so, it is no surprise, that 100% of the profits from the Festival go to Swaziland’s thousands of Aids orphans through reputed NGO Young Heroes, with merchandise proceeds earmarked for rural communities through non-profit Gone Rural boMake.
