Themed Solid Radio, Liquid Audio, three-day Salon De La Radio in Paris brought out some of the world's best broadcasters

Themed 'Solid Radio, Liquid Audio', three-day Salon De La Radio in Paris brought out some of the world's best broadcasters, radio professionals, presenters, producers, editors and radio manufacturers and showcased the various directions radio have taken and its future.

At the heart of dynamic panel discussions about content, listener engagement, editorials and other media related exhibitions were car manufacturers. Taking centre stage was the German car manufacturer Audi, there to promote their ‘In-Car-Info and Entertainment-Experience'.

The one key tech that caught my attention was the presence of ‘connected car’ in all of Audi’s electric E-Tron series and some Porsche Cayenne.

Demonstrating their ‘connected cars’ to a Colourful Radio representative at the show, Philipp Rabel, Senior Manager for Audi's Multimedia Development said:

“Our cars are fully connected, because we have already enriched the information we receive from radio stations with our metadata information.”

“We also have a Hybrid Radio functionality where a customer can switch between FM or D.A.B seamlessly without any interference in case the station’s signal becomes weak due to a driving environment.”

Through RadioDNS’s tech, Hybrid Radio seamlessly combines the broadcasting of FM, D.A. B+, HD and IP to create a better driving experience in the car. It also enables the display of a station’s information and graphics - logo, descriptions, genres, and program information at a touch.

Hybrid Radio also enables the radio listening experience to continue 'Uninterrupted', by seamlessly auto-switching to internet streaming when the broadcast signal becomes weak and back to the FM or DAB handle as the signal is re-established and stronger.

RadioDNS, claims that its Hybrid Radio enhances over 80% of radio listening in the UK, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Norway and Austria, and is now available as standard in Audi, VW, and Porsche cars in Europe, and planned for North America.

As we begin the first year in a new decade, Online Radio Stations can now be accessed via the same tech as FM, DAB etc. Connected radio in connected cars is here.

The accompanying photo illustrates how the tech works with Colourful Radio's internet stream.
