World Travel Market 2010 - Rosemary's World Wind Tour

From 8th to 11th November 2010, COLOURFUL, London’s only commercial music and speech radio station broadcast live from World Travel Market (WTM) at Excel, London. The station won the right in June to become “Radio Broadcast Partner to World Travel Market 2010”.

Rosemary Laryea, presenter of the Station’s flagship culture, lifestyle and arts show was based at the WTM’s Media Village during the four day exhibition. Rosemary’s unrestricted access to the event that would determine Summer 2011’s travel and tourism trends offered the opportunity for listeners to be at the forefront of this knowledge, gaining exclusive insight into next year’s holiday hotspots and deals.

Highlights of Rosemary’s world wind tour included visiting Muhammad Ali in Libya. Nestled between Tunisia and Egypt, Mr Ali spoke of the country’s historical blend of unique North African and Mediterranean culture, which also boasts the longest coast in the Mediterranean offering warm weather and blue skies almost all year round.

Adorned by the rainforests of Central America, Rosemary’s next stop was Costa Rica – a country abundant in lush biodiversity and active volcanoes, before island hopping in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Because of the climate both these countries offer, tourists have the chance to indulge in an array of activities. Watching the lava flow from the Arenal Volcano presents a unique and thrilling experience, on the other hand bird watching in the Turks and Caicos make for more of a laid back holiday.

Most of the delegates Rosemary spoke to focused on the diversity of their tourist industry, especially India with its Northern mountainous regions, and inviting coastal beaches. Similarly, South Africa, the home of the 2010 World Cup offers tourists its vast expanse of wildlife and nature reserves. The Eastern Cape is also known as the adventure capital, but for those with an eye on relaxation, SA’s wine region may be just the antidote.

If sustainability is on the agenda, Iceland’s proximity to the UK offers a smaller carbon footprint, fresh sustainably sourced cuisine rivalling that of the Mediterranean and spectacular nature comprising of glaciers, volcanoes and the Aurora Lights to name a few. The country is also popular for its outdoor thermal spas, so come sunshine or snow, be sure to pack bathing gear.

It was a momentous time for COLOURFUL to partner with WTM, as the global event this year attracted an increase in travel industry delegates by 16%, and the final day of the exhibition attracting a record 34% increase in visitors. With COLOURFUL being amongst international press, it gave the station an opportunity to establish a global presence within the travel industry and international media.

On the success of attendance this year, Simon Press, World Travel Market Exhibition Director commented: “The fact the number of year on year visitors increased everyday of WTM – including the 34% increase in visitors on the final day – is particularly impressive and is great news for exhibitors, allowing them to conduct even more business across all four days of the event.”

COLOURFUL’S featured presence as the only London radio station at the event also highlighted the success of 2010’s WTM and is continued on our website where several delegate interviews can be accessed. Visit www.colourfulradio.com
